Bridgedale is the oldest remaining building in Bridgetown. It was constructed in 1862 by pastoralist John Blechynden. The house was built from bricks made of clay from the riverbank.
The building was purchased by public subscription in 1969 and handed over to the National Trust who now administers it. Of particular interest are the beautiful gardens and tiny building behind the house where the original owner lived while Bridgedale was being built.
There is a pleasant 1.5 kilometre river walk which starts from the house and takes you along the banks of the Blackwood River and back via Philips Street and the SW Highway.
